A great customer relationship management (CRM) solution is an essential tool for any organisation that wants to improve their relationships with their customers, leads and prospects (and their vendors and partners for that matter!)
A good CRM will allow you to automate and personalise your sales and marketing, react quickly to key trends, and ultimately grow your business.
But it can be difficult to choose the best CRM software for your business because there are so many different options available.
So what is the key to CRM software selection success?
Personally, I believe that the most important thing is to choose a solution that can integrate with your other business systems – such as your billing and finance, your order management, your eCommerce and/or your projects – or a solution that can provide all of this functionality in one.
This means you can get a real 360 degree view of your contacts, including their order history, the products / services they’re interested in, how much they paid, their payment terms, their delivery dates, and more.
You can then take full advantage of this invaluable information by maximising bespoke and geared marketing campaigns to your customer base, driving add-on sales and future business growth.
All of this results in the ability to provide a better, more personalised experience to your customers, as well as your potential customers.
Here are a few more tips for choosing the best CRM software for your business:
Choose a flexible solution that can be tailored to your business when it comes to functionality (or one that has already been optimised for your industry)
Make sure it can grow with you with regards to the number of records, the number of users and the functionality
Look out for decent and easy-to-use reporting and analytics tools
Ask potential vendors for reference customers in your industry
Make sure you understand the differences between on-premise, hosted cloud and ‘true cloud’ software
Use an implementation partner if you would prefer an on-going relationship
Make sure staff training is provided (either by your vendor or implementation partner)
Beware of vendor lock in. Find out how easy will it be to move your data out of the system if you choose to cancel your contract
Make sure you fully understand how data privacy and security will be handled (is it taken care of in-house or by your vendor? What processes and procedures are in place?)
